Weather Outlook

I was so busy reading and commenting on blogs I wasn't sure I'd find time to post anything today. But, I was inspired moments ago by a local TV meteorologist.

We're heading to northern Iowa tomorrow and will be there for a week. Yes, we know it's late October. And, yes, we know it gets cold in northern Iowa. So, that's why we decided to check in on the weather. There's rain on the way this weekend and the temperatures are expected to tumble. So, we're taking our chances. Yes, our fingers are definitely crossed.

The source of today's blogging inspiration is the really long range forecast. Today NOAA released its Winter outlook. This time last year I remember looking at those forecast maps in fear. Everywhere we were planning to go last Winter was expected to be cooler and wetter than normal.

NOAA got that right!

I am pleased to report that things are looking better for this Winter. Much better. The southern half of the U.S. is expected to be warmer and drier than normal. Check out the expected temps and precipitation for your destination at the NOAA web site.

Here's hoping NOAA goes two-for-two!

That's good news for all the snowbirds heading south. I remember last year they were talking about how chilly it was down south. The weather up here in the Pacific Northwest is supposed to be cooler and wetter. Sounds like another snowy winter.

Good news for all of you RVers that will be lucky enough to be in the south this winter!

I read somewhere that Florida will be dry and parched, so I guess there is a down side to everything. I hope I can find something in the middle - ha, don't we all!

I hope they get it right again this year also. I was a little too chilly last year. Do you think they can forecast the number of mice at Anahuac this winter? :)

I went back and looked at the maps. I was concentrating so much on the south I didn't really notice the Pacific NW. Sorry to see that, folks!

Lee and Loralie - Big Bend is on our agenda for February-ish. AZ, too. When are you planning to be there?

With y'all as my witnesses, I promise not to complain that it's too hot this winter!!!

In the short term, I'm with John and Sandy. Let's keep things bearable in Northern Iowa for now.

My DH and I are traveling to Hilton Head Oct 29th for a week, then we will have to winterize the MH :( until next Spring. Last winter was pretty rough here in Virginia. We would have to travel pretty far to escape the cold but can't. Gotta work :)

I stopped believing in long term weather forecasts a long time ago.

But their guess is a good as anything.
