Since we had our loose connections on our heat pump fixed, we've been watching our thermostat like a couple of hawks. It seems that our AC is working just fine, thanks. But, you see, we're just not sure. So, it feels like we need to start a diary that reads something like this. September 12, 2011, 3:55 PM. Ambient temp: 94 degrees. Thermostat: 77 degrees. Inside temp: 80 degrees to 77 in 59 minutes.
That all sounds good. But, who really knows for sure? We feel like we need to write it down and document it all.
The "R" is all about our stupid-ass refrigerator. (You see, I have a pet name for it now.) It seems it may have had a "brain fart" again last night. It was warm this morning and got warmer as we made our way from Lake Melvern to Monett. I needed to write it down in my HVACR Diary, but I didn't. We picked up a new thermistor this afternoon, which is the cheapest fix on the troubleshooting flowchart of not-cooling-so-well refrigerators. But, so far, that didn't seem to do the trick. So, my diary entry needs to include that. Right now, we've turned the stupid thing off for a couple of hours hoping that will reset its mixed up brain. We shall see.
It'll all work out, sooner or later. We know it will.
Meanwhile, like I said, I need to keep a diary to keep track of these things. Is the heat pump cooling? or heating? or not? Is the fridge doing its thing? or something else?
Only my dear diary knows for sure!

Paul and Mary,
After I replaced my thermistor it seemed to take a couple of days to find it's rhythm. Temperatures still fluctuate from low 30's to 40 in the fridge when it's doing the defrost cycle.. about every other day it seems...I need a diary too. However, everything is staying cold. I never paid such close attention to the temps in the past so I assume it has always fluctuated. I installed one of those wireless remote thermometers in the fridge. Now it's an obsession as I'm always checking it!
Dear diary....
The refrigerator and A/C both really suck!
Nuff said........
I can just see it now. LOL!
Hope all works out in the end.

Our 14 month old referigerator had exactly the same symptoms you mentioned. It was cold and mostly hot for over two weeks last month. Finally took it to the dealer.
Long story checking everything, but it came down to the thermistor wire in the circuit board (outside of refer, in a plastic box). It was loose. The technican popped the connector onto the board (went click), and all has been good since.
0-5 in freezer, 35-38 in refer. And yes, since then, we do watch the temps every day!

dear diary!..I love my life!!..if only things would work the way they were suppose to!!
A Diary for notes like that seems like a good idea. At least when you are talking to a tech about a problem that isn't showing it's face, you can tell them when and how often it did happen without sounding like a babbling fool.
Got the bed frame down just took a little more force :)
